Prototype-to-Print File Bundle

Everything from concept to manufacturing-ready files — in one order.

Everything from concept to manufacturing-ready files — in one order.

Inventors and product developers rarely need just one file — they need the full set. Our prototype design service bundle delivers the SolidWorks native file, a print-validated STL, and a manufacturing-ready STEP in a single order, with no upsells and no separate tickets. One brief, one price, one delivery.

What the Bundle Delivers

Every bundle includes: the native SolidWorks SLDPRT or SLDASM file with a full parametric feature tree, STEP AP214 for CNC machining and injection molding vendors, binary STL pre-optimized for your target print process, and a one-page dimensional reference PDF. Optional add-ons at a bundled rate include a 2D technical drawing with GD&T callouts, a product render for Amazon or Kickstarter, and a material recommendation report for your manufacturing method.

Our cad design for 3d printing workflow includes manifold check, wall thickness validation (minimum 1.2mm for FDM, 0.5mm for SLA), overhanging feature analysis, and a build orientation recommendation before the STL leaves our studio. We also check part dimensions against your stated printer build volume and flag any features that will cause support removal difficulty. This process eliminates the most common causes of first-print failure. Our custom PCB enclosure portfolio item shows a complete bundle — modeled from scratch and delivered print-ready for an FDM printer in a single order.

For reference on additive manufacturing design principles, Proto Labs design tips for additive manufacturing outlines the design rules our engineers apply to every print-bound STL.

Who This Bundle Is For

Our product design for inventors bundle consistently serves four client types. First-time inventors preparing for a prototype run who need files a local print shop or online service can accept without modification. Amazon FBA sellers validating packaging inserts or accessories before requesting manufacturing quotes. Kickstarter creators who need both render images and production files before their campaign launches. Engineers who have a concept but lack SolidWorks skills to execute it, and need a trusted stl file design service to build and validate the geometry.

Turnaround and Revision Policy

Standard single-part bundles deliver in 24 hours. Assemblies with five or more components are quoted at 48 hours after a scope review before work begins. Every bundle includes two revision rounds — enough to refine geometry based on real-world print feedback. For 3D printing design service projects we include a brief print settings note with delivery — recommended layer height, infill percentage, and support strategy tailored to your specific part geometry and target printer.

File Compatibility Across Your Supply Chain

A common problem with prototype files is that they work for one vendor but not another. The STL your local FDM printer accepts may not be the format your SLS bureau requires. The STEP your CNC shop uses may not be the same AP version your injection molder expects. Our prototype design service bundle delivers files tested against the most common vendor requirements — binary STL for consumer FDM printers, mesh-optimized STL for SLS and SLA bureaus, STEP AP214 for CNC machining, and STEP AP203 on request for older CAM systems. We also verify that all export units match your specified measurement system so scaling errors are caught before the files leave our studio, not after your first prototype arrives at the wrong size. This cross-vendor compatibility check is included with every cad design for 3d printing bundle at no additional cost.
